The challenge:

Psychological Strain and Limited Support

Experiences of flight can be traumatic.

People who flee their home country go through deeply unsettling and often traumatising situations. While many find healing through their own resources, others suffer long‑term from severe psychological strain.

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Post‑traumatic stress reactions
  • Sleep problems and feelings of hopelessness
  • Low self‑esteem

Overburdened support systems

Psychosocial services in Europe are under severe strain. Waiting times for therapy places range from weeks to months. Traditional approaches focus on psychotherapy, which can be inefficient or, in some cases, ineffective.

Expanding capacity alone is not enough – innovative, accessible approaches are urgently needed.

Our approach:

HRE workshops since 2004

Physical exercises

Gentle yoga‑based movements and relaxation techniques to support physical stability.

Breathing techniques

Scientifically grounded breathing practices to regulate the nervous system

Everyday skills

Practical knowledge and tools for coping with everyday stress

Since 2004, we have been offering HRE (Healing Resilience Empowerment) workshops worldwide in crisis regions – on a voluntary basis and in close cooperation with other organisations and local institutions. We aim to mobilise inner resources to strengthen psychological resilience.

Workshop structure:

Compact and sustainable

The HRE workshop is designed flexibly and can be adapted to different needs. The standard format consists of two sessions of 2.5 hours, held on two consecutive days.

The practices taught are intentionally simple and highly effective. After completing the workshop, participants can continue using the stabilising techniques independently and on their own responsibility – a sustainable investment in mental health.

By strengthening self‑confidence and encouraging responsible self‑directed action, long‑term positive change becomes possible.

Scientifically proven:

Together for healing and hope

HRE workshops offer a proven, science‑based response to one of the most urgent challenges of our time: providing psychosocial support for people in situations of extreme stress. By combining decades of experience, cultural sensitivity and evidence‑based methods, we create spaces for healing and hope.

Your support makes the difference

Whether you work in a health organisation, NGO or public institution – together we can strengthen the psychological resilience of refugees and equip them with tools for a self‑determined life.

Every workshop is a step towards healing. Each strengthened person contributes to a stronger and more resilient society.

Healing Resilience Empowerment – because every person has the right to inner peace and mental health.

Voices of hope:

Participants share their stories

“It is not easy to leave an entire life behind. Since I have been practising the exercises learned in the course every day, I feel calmer and can even sleep again.”

- Refugee from Ukraine.

“I observed many victims of war suffering from Post Traumatic Stress in serious post-conflict circumstances in Kosovo. IAHV trainings have significantly helped them in their recovery.”

- Vehbi Rafuni, Director, Association for Disabled Kosovo Liberation Army Veterans

“You send people to a workshop for a week, and you figure they're going to feel better. But to see something one year after is pretty amazing.”
