The challenge:

It is well known that most prisons are high-stress environments. For both prison staff and inmates, this stress can manifest itself directly—for example, in the form of aggression, depression, inattention, burnout, and stress-related illnesses—but also indirectly, such as through substance abuse or a deterioration in interpersonal relationships.

Prison staff are expected to work professionally, responsibly, and reliably, and to demonstrate an appropriate and humane attitude. However, stressful working conditions can impair this ability to function effectively. In extreme cases, they can also lead to higher staff absenteeism, which increases the pressure on the remaining active staff.

Overcrowding

Overcrowding leads to additional stress  and tension, both for the overworked  prison staff and for the  inmates themselves.

Diversity

The great social, cultural, and linguistic  diversity brings with it new and specific  challenges in terms of  coexistence.

Everyday skills

An increase in the number of prisoners with  medical and psychological  problems and drug use requires  serious attention.
